Keith A. Greever

Keith Greever, the son of Wayne Edward Greever and Eva Violet Wilson Greever, was born at Shenandoah, Iowa on November 24, 1928. He was educated in rural Locust Grove Township and graduated from Shenandoah High School. From 1947-1953 he worked as a cream tester for Squirer Dairy Company in Shenandoah.

On January 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Virginia Lundgren at the Fremont Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Essex, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah. To this union one daughter, Arlene was born.

Keith served in the Iowa National Guard Company E, 168th Infantry 34th Division in Shenandoah from June 1948 until July 1953. On July 20, 1953 Keith entered into active military duty in the US Army to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan and Korea. Keith returned home on May 27, 1955. He was transferred to the Army Reserve to complete his 8 years of service under the Universal Military Training and Service Act. CPL Keith A. Greever was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal and The Korean Good Conduct Service Medal.

After returning from Korea, Keith worked as the Distribution Center Manager for Earl May Seed and Nursery Company for 40 years. Keith was a member of the Fremont Evangelical Covenant Church, later transferring his membership to the Faith Covenant Church in Essex. After retiring from Earl May, Keith remained active. He especially enjoyed gardening and was well known for his gooseberries, farm grown peaches and homemade ground horseradish. Keith mowed lawns and shoveled snow for neighbors and businesses until the age of 81. He especially enjoyed his nieces, nephews, extended family and Arlene's puppies, Frankie and Abbey.

Keith was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle, parents, step-father Ralph Kohler; five brother-in-laws, Leonard, Wesley, Vernon and Delbert Lundgren and John Wilcox, Sr; four sister-in-laws, Harriett Wilcox, Laurine, Phyllis and Hazel Lundgren; nephew Gordon Lundgren and one great nephew Jamie Wilcox. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Arlene Y. Greever of Lincoln, sister Nadine Lundgren of Essex, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of good friends and neighbors.

Keith passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the age of 89 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. His death came only 2 months after his beloved wife Myrtle died in Shenandoah on March 7, 2018.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Faith Covenant Church in Essex, Iowa. Burial with complete military rites will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church 30 minutes prior to services.
